What Were You Wearing?  Call to Survivors

STRIVE is partnering with other campus departments and student organizations to bring the What Were You Wearing? Exhibit to UF in April, 2018. This installation was created in 2013 at the University of Arkansas and is one of the many projects worldwide working to dispel the myth that a victim of sexual assault is to blame for their victimization because of what they were wearing at the time. The stories utilized were donated by survivors and are used with their consent, Clothing in the installation is not the actual clothing worn by the survivor, but a recreation. STRIVE and partners hope that survivors who experience the installation feel heard, validated, believed, and know that the assault was not their fault. The goal of the installation is for viewers to see themselves reflected in not only the outfits, but also the stories. This realization moves us away from blaming the victim for violence and places responsibility where it belongs, on those who caused harm. Survivors who would like to submit a story, click here.
