Frequently Asked Questions

As health education leaders at the University of Florida, GatorWell uses health promotion strategies to educate UF students about health and wellness topics relevant to the college experience. These strategies include health-related individual services, programming, advocacy and assessment. Students can meet with a health educator for the following one-on-one services: HIV Testing, Quit Tobacco and Wellness Coaching for Academic Success, as well as, request health presentations and tabling outreach. Large-scale outreach programs include a traveling Health Hut, health communication campaigns, the STRIVE peer education group and residential outreach. Our advocacy efforts include campus health policy development and acting as a regular credible source for local news agencies. GatorWell collaborates with numerous campus and community stakeholders and leaders to carry out our mission to support student wellness and academic success.

To better serve UF students, GatorWell Health Promotion Services has several locations!

  • Our Main Office is in the Reitz Union on Level 1 next to the Career Resource Center; 655 Rietz Union Dr. Suite 1100
  • We have a satellite office at Jennings Hall (Buses: 121, 126, 127)
  • We have a satellite office at the Springs Complex (Buses: 120, 125, 126)
  • We also have a traveling Health Hut that goes all over campus: Health Hut hours and locations

GatorWell Hours of Operation:

  • Main office hours are 8am-5pm
    • GatorWell follows the official UF calendar
    • GatoWell is closed on all UF recognized Holidays

The Counseling and Wellness Center’s staff consist primarily of licensed mental health providers, psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists and other mental healthcare providers. They provide group and individual therapy, on-line therapy for anxiety, and psychiatric medical treatment to students. They also provide outreach services to students around campus on mental health issues.

GatorWell staff are not qualified to provide mental health therapy or treatment.They qualified to assist students to develop skills to improve their health in any of the health topics covered by GatorWell, coach them to develop action plans around health goals and conduct HIV testing. They educate and provide outreach on any of the health topics covered by GatorWell.

All GatorWell services are covered by health fees associated with student tuition costs. Therefore, enrolled students pay no additional cost at time of service.

No- but if you are a spouse of a student or off for a semester, you are still allowed to use the services.

An enrolled student can meet one-on-one with a Health Educator for the following services:

  • Tobacco

GatorWell also provides outreach services for students, which can also be requested online!

This service is available at GatorWell’s main office during our business hours Monday through Friday in the Rietz Union on Level 1.  Request an appointment! Based on your schedule and availability, we will match you with a Health Educator at a time a place that is convenient for you.

The Quit Tobacco Program service is offered at GatorWell’s main office during business hours Monday through Friday at our main office in the Reitz Union on Level 1. Request an appointment! Based on your schedule and availability, we will match you with a Health Educator at a time a place that is convenient for you.

HIV Counseling and Testing is available at GatorWell’s main office in the Reitz Union on Level 1 on Mondays from 2pm-4:30pm, Wednesdays from 2pm-4:30pm and Thursdays & Fridays from 9:30am-11:30am.  Request an appointment! 

  • Request a Presentation- Students, faculty or staff can request presentations that will be offered to students. 
  • Request  Outreach Tabling- Students, faculty or staff can request GatorWell to provide outreach at an event for students regarding a specific health topic covered by GatorWell or information about GatorWell in general.
  • Request Bulk Condoms- Students, faculty or staff can request bulk condoms for events or programs serving UF students. 
  • Request a Media Interview- Students and professional journalists can request a media interview. As a professional courtesy, professional journalists can bypass the request form and call GatorWell directly (352-273-4450).
    • Do you do same day interviews?  This cannot be guaranteed for class assignments- the media request form needs to be completed online at least 24 hours in advance to ensure a timely response. We will do everything possible to accommodate non-class assignment requests from professional journalists (TV-20, the Gainesville Sun, The Alligator, radio stations, etc.).  
  • Request the Health Hut to visit your campus location or attend your campus event.You must speak with Samantha Evans by phone (352-273-4462) or email Samantha Evans (
  • Collaborate with GatorWell on a UF affiliated event or program- Our health educators are well trained in program development and event planning related to college health and in support of academic success. 

No. GatorWell is only certified to provide HIV counseling and testing in the form of an oral swab. Results come back in two weeks and students need to obtain results in person.

No, it is against GatorWell site certification.

Specialty condoms, such as external/roll-on (male) condoms (flavored, latex-free, extra-large) and internal/insertable (female) condoms are available in limited supply for individual students (no bulk requests) at the main office and satellite centers.  Call or visit GatorWell directly to obtain specialty condoms.

No- only the student can schedule an appointment for services.

No- Gatorade is provided by the Student Health Care Center in the Infirmary building off of Fletcher Drive.

No- we do not have a nutritionist on staff. Please call or visit the Student Health Care Center to make an appointment with the registered dietitian via Nutrition Services: 392-1161

No.  Because we have a limited supply of these items, we allow students to take only one of each item per visit.  Our free condoms, however, are packaged eight per bag (and more can be made available upon request). Students are welcome to come back for more items in the future and to tell other students to visit our offices for these giveaways.
